Consignment Week - The Homestead Weekly Update
Good day from the R&M Homestead. We can’t believe it’s Friday already where did this week go. Even the kids can’t believe it’s Friday already. They are excited for a church Pinic for tomorrow. It’s been quite a busy week!
Consignment Sale
By far over this past weekend and Monday and Tuesday morning we spent the brunt of our attention on this project. M got together almost 300 items to sell, which needed to be put on hangers, or bagged and everything needed to be tagged. So far she’s already sold 46 items so it was well worth our time and effort and there is still 6 more days left! You can find more info here https://justlikenewkids.com/
Jaydin’s Room Upgrades
R completed the shelf which the computer will be sitting on so now he has full access to use the desk. He also got a small closet upgrade, where we added 4 more shelves and shorted his hanging space. It’s coming together nicely and he loves the additional space. We need to build a small shelf above the computer and a bookcase at the opposite end then this project will be complete. Although his room won’t be done yet, we want to possibly build him a small table with a shelf for his Guinea Pig and it’s supplies, M wants to make custom window drapes that matches his hot wheels theme, and then we talked about doing a checked flag boarder around the wall.
The Garden
We are still getting a lot of Maters and our Pepper intake has really picked up. Our radishes are starting to be ready to pick again as well. Our fall plant of lettuce hasn’t come up yet and we are kinda bummed about that, but the walnuts are falling from the trees now and we saw a few chestnuts fall as well. So hopefully we will be able to show you how we harvest our very own free abundance of black walnuts and the few chestnuts we get each year. We also plan on getting a bushel or two of apples to make some canned apple sauce (kids by far favorite).
The Barnyard Friends
Ok no we actually don’t have a barn(yet) but we do have 4 sheds that if you put them all together you could have a very small weird looking hobo barn. I say that cause two are wood(rotting away) and 2 are plastic (which are getting brittle) but hey for the most part it keeps the water out(for the most part leeks less then the last two warehouses I worked in) Anyway I digress, the animals are doing well. We washed over 120 eggs yesterday between the chickens and ducks that’s about 8 eggs a day in a three week period of time. Not to shabby if you ask us. It’s so nice since we moved to this house we bought 2 18 packs of eggs the first winter. Since then we haven’t had the need to buy them. M makes this awesome egg salad the kids and I love to kinda clean out the ones that have been in the fridge a bit for proper rotation. She’s kinda mastered it and it typically will make at least 2-3 meals for the few days it lasts and it’s a quick snack if you able to sneak a spoon(or a finger) into the bowl.
The Rabbits are doing well although M lost a buck the other day, poor guy got Clogged up and we aren’t sure why, but we are keeping a watchful eye on the other bunnies in that cage.
The Dogs, they are happy as can be, Zuma (Maddie’s Chocolate Lab, consistently un-stacks the wood pile, possibly to watch the kids put them all back for fun, but more realistically to chew on them, but if chewing on sticks isn’t enough, he’s been chewing on just about everything he can get his mouth around, doesn’t matter what it is ether metal, no problem, plastic let me have it, chickens ( he wishes) although him and Lila the Golden ( attention seeker) Retriever has been probing the coop, and brought to our attention several chicken wire soft spots so we were able to have those repaired. Leave it to the dogs to protect our hens.
I think that about sums up this week. Homeschooling really takes up a good portion of the day and we have a great system in place to keep us focused and on task with the amount of heads in classes. Beka even has a desk to be included and kinda get her into a routine of coloring time in the morning. Our daily family devotionals are fantastic and our pastor gave us a great book to help with that. R is really excited about this. We love you all and hope you have a wonderful week. God bless you all and we are praying for you all!
