Planning The Garden Part 1

Each Year we change up a little bit on how we grow out our garden. Whether it be from what we learned years before, ways to try and improve how we grow our food, or just planning out how we will improve the production and how can we save a bit of time.

Each year we keep a chart to track what we start indoors and when. Since our area’s last frost date is April 30th right about now we start our 12 week out plants. With so many different plants, times and in our case this year, ether using seeds that are a year or 2 old and seeds we saved from last year, we are not totally sure what our finial outcome will be. This will help us track germination rates and allow us to re start seeds sooner. We are also trying a new method to us “ Paper towel in a sand which bag method” which we have seen several other homesteads do and supposedly allows your seeds to germinate a bit faster then in soil. Also since its not in our basement and in our sun room, our entire family can be part of the process. If you’d like the chart for tracking, you can click ether button below for ether the spread sheet or a printable PDF. We will keep you posted on the progress and Happy Gardening and Homesteading God Bless!!!
