The Homestead Weekly Update

Good day folks, such a blessed day on the homestead and such an great and eventful week. It’s been busy and we have M’s mom in town and we still have plenty more to do so we will get crackin.

Garden update:

The tomatoes and peppers are so plentiful right now. Zucchini and squash are still holding strong as well. We planting our fall batch of lettuce and hoping to get beans in. In other garden news we had a ton of ground cherrys sprout this year and got a great harvest from them as well. Such a blessing. Also a part I ordered for our 1990 rototiller finally arrived Wednesday I placed this order back in end of April or beginning of May.  Thankfully it’s an easy fix that should only take 10-15 mins so I’ll be able till once again. tilled the entire tomatoe and peppers area by hand this year, let’s say we have a new found appreciation for horse powered engines, even if they are 2 cylinders.

Desk build for Bed update:

The desk build is coming along really well should be finishing it by tomorrow and installing it sometime late next week. We are excited for this project and we think our son will too. Plus it is the first time I’ve ever cut dovetails and I think I might be using them more often. It was a great way to connect the frame together.

Duck pen update:

This project is slow moving, I was able to get the wire  pinned down for the 1 section of the wall. And I started putting in a U post and then we had to clear out, evidently some local wasps decided to make a new home just to the left of the 1 standing pallet and they didn’t like the noise of picket pounding. I haven’t been stung by a bee or wasp in a long time and that day made up for it. Needle to say our son Booked it out of there pretty fast, he got stung a few days before in that general area as well. We went nest hunting and foamed em out, but I’ve had no real desire to return since. That will have to change next week.

Rabbit update:

Rabbits are doing well, mainly lounging around the past week due to the high heat and humidity. will be taking a decent load of rabbits to the auction next week and we are praying for better luck this time. Last month didn’t go as well as we planned but it was most certainly a learning experience.

Other random events from the past week:

Still need to get the Van oil change and inspection done for next month along with a good old fashion tire rotation. Need to replace some exterior lights today before it rains and I Thought I would be smart and buy a 12 pack of light bulbs for the inside as well new we had a couple blown bulbs. Well after checking all the lights, I have 1 bulb left so I’ll need to put that on the pick up list for next week. And then last night happened.....

Now I know it’s possible and somewhat common to be locked out of your house, I think M has done with a few times since we moved in. But I have never heard of anyone getting locked into their house, till last night. Went to take out the trash and the dead bolt would only travel about 3/4 of the distance it should. Pry bar and hulagin tool moved the door some but not enough, so thankfully the painted hinges could be removed and out pops the door. So that’s this morning project along with the lights before the rain comes.

We love ya and god willing hope you have a wonderful week! God Bless
