War of the Antz - Napalm and Nukes
Good Day and Happy Friday everyone. We been away for quite some time, kind of like a bears hibernation but we are back in action now and we have a story to tell.
M had been hard at work for the month of May, pouring her heart and all her extra time into the garden this year. She’s really kicking some bootie and at this date, the garden is 95% planted. On top of that, R has been mainly out of commission due to a back related injury. While he can make sure the kids don’t tare down the house as best as his crippleness can which gives her a little extra time, she’s been pretty much single handedly with some assistance from the kids here and there completing it. And then the Ants…..
The first week of May we had some issues with ants but they were containable. The second week, we started losing some cabbage, and peas, then as more plants came out more we started to loose. As M pulled up our weed barrier the more ant hills she found. She boiled water and started the assault to take back our garden. She put DE down and we waited.
The next day they counter attacked us right in our lettuce and spinach patch. Out comes some more De and building a perimeter to that bed and our root bed. I have to hand it to M so far she has been taking it quite well. Middle of May and she feels like we got this under control or at least possibly able to contain. But week 3 was like D Day.
M started planing all the Tomatoes and egg plants, celery, beans, vine plants, yea pretty much everything. Those ants attacked our garden everywhere. Each day she found new hills, and more plants dead. Now M is starting to get aggravated she’s researching, and we don’t like using chemicals on our food source. But this is a matter of garden or no garden. Wednesday was the last straw when they started taking on our tomatoes. She went ballistic. Even went to Lowe’s and got fire and spray, outdoor ant traps, slug removers and ordered lady bugs.
Now anyone who knows M knows she’s a sweet loving Texan who loves our lord and savior. She was comparing these ants to the locus invasion of Egypt. I’ve never seen her this aggravated and disturbed before. She has the right though, she has probably 80-100 hours Of work time in there.
As of this day, we have them on the defense, we haven’t lost anymore plants in 2 days. Although we are still finding in new areas they seem to be staying a little further away from the plants. We also have our own reinforcements.
He’s been hanging around a lot the past 2 weeks. Normally garter snakes don’t eat ants unless there’s enough to fill them up. We’ve seen him and 2 others so much this year we believe they are feeding on them. As much as R doesn’t like snakes, even he’s ok with these guys if it’s going to put M at rest. Well that’s the war on the ants, hopefully they will be gone soon enough, I’m personally hoping they do I don’t want to see M using the Nuclear option… we might loose more then gain with that.
We hope you all have a wonderful memorial weekend. To those who have lost love ones who have served our our country and stood for Old Glory. We thank you, and you are in our prayers. As a Veteran myself I understand the sacrifices they’ve made and honor the ultimate sacrifice they made. May they all never be forgotten. To Winder and Gaunky brothers, I miss you brothers! May you all be resting in peace.
God Bless you all and God Bless the USA
